With an immense population growth in the tricity, the demand of drinking water has increased manifold forcing Panchkula to operate bore wells.
The parched areas of Panchkula will get additional water from June 2011, with the UT, on Wednesday, approving alignment of pipe lines to provide 6 million gallons of water per day (MGD) to the neighbouring city.
However, UT has emphasised that minimum number of trees should be felled during the laying of supply lines.
UT will supply water as per the already signed agreement, and the forthcoming Kajauli Water Works sharing schemes in Punjab are yet to be worked out by the three stake-holders.
This was decided at a meeting held by home secretary Ram Niwas with the officials of
Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
