Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Harjiram Burdak appealed to adopt water conservation practices.
Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Harjiram Burdak on Tuesday called for speedy implementation of measures for conservation of water in irrigation activities during the ongoing sowing of rabi crops. He said farmers should be encouraged to adopt water-saving practices.
Addressing a review meeting of his department's officers in Bikaner, Mr. Burdak said the waste of the precious water resources should be stopped through a "direct dialogue" with farmers who could be apprised of the benefits of drip irrigation and sprinklers.
"The department's schemes can also be implemented [effectively] through the direct dialogue. These efforts should be accompanied by organising workshops for farmers in selected villages," said Mr. Burdak.
The Minister expressed the hope that the rabi crop production would set new records in view of this year's good monsoon rains. According to an official release, Mr. Burdak called for promotion of horticulture and vegetable production as well.
Principal Agriculture Secretary R. K. Meena, Agriculture Commissioner J. C. Mohanti, Horticulture Director Jagroop Singh Yadav and Managing Director, State Seeds Corporation, Ramesh Chandra Solanki, also addressed the meeting.
