800 Colonies In Hyderabad To Get Basic Facilities
Times of India, Hyderabad, 23 Feb 2011
Colonies in municipal circles surrounding Hyderabad will soon get basic infrastructure facilities

Nearly 800 colonies in surrounding municipal circles will soon get basic infrastructure facilities like water and sewer lines, storm water drains and roads.

To begin with, 50 colonies have been identified by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for providing these basic civic amenities in the first phase. The facilities would be taken up in the remaining colonies in the next three years under the Total Infrastructure Programme (TIP).

Priority would be given to the colonies which suffer from at least 50 per cent infrastructure deficiency and where residential buildings have come up in more than 30 per cent of the layout.

The GHMC had identified 800 colonies in the surrounding municipal circles like L B Nagar, Kapra, Uppal, Malkajgiri, Alwal and Rajendranagar, which lack minimum civic infrastructure facilities, through its engineering wing a few months ago. Some residential welfare associations have also represented to the civic body about the lack of facilities. It is estimated that the corporation requires about Rs. 600 crore for providing all facilities in those colonies.

"Earlier, the corporation had prepared only line estimates and come to the conclusion that it would require Rs. 600 crore. Now, the corporation will prepare detailed project reports (DPR), including estimations for each colony which will be completed in three months," a senior engineering official said.
