Shirpur city is one of the hubs of medical and commercial activities in Dhule district of Maharashtra. Its present population is around 61,000 (census 2001), and is projected to be 86,500 in the year 2016. Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran handed over the responsibility of water supply to Shirpur Warvade Municipal Council in 1987. The present water demand of 8 mld is met primarily through surface sources. The per capita supply is around 120 liters per day. Due to rapid industrial and population growth, the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) has sanctioned a new Water Treatment Plant (WTP) of 12.5 mld at the cost of Rs. 10.42 crore.
A fully automatic plant, which can be operated in three modes, i.e., Auto, Semi-Auto and Manual. For automation Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system is being used. For its various operations, latest technology instruments/equipments have been installed, such as on line turbidity meter, PLC panel, ultrasonic flow meter, chlorine sensor and centrifugal pumps.

Due to this WTP, citizens of Shirpur city enjoy 'filtered and bacteria-free' water at the rate of 112 liters per capita per day, twice a day.
As mentioned above, there is no PSP in the city, every consumer has an individual connection, and the collection efficiency is around 98%.
