Management Information System in KUWS&DB
Background & Objective
The Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board implemented the water supply and underground drainage schemes in 213 urban areas of the state, excluding Bangalore. The activities of the board have increased significantly and the procedures for administration of project implementation have also been modified periodically. Hence it was felt necessary to computerize all its activities for efficient administration, making optimal use of the resources, with good control over its budget. The board has taken up a major computerization effort to cover all the activities of the board including administrative, financial, material management, and project preparation including engineering and management of the schemes.
Implementation
The functional requirements of the KUWSDB are the activities related to administrative work, material and asset management, proposal of new schemes, implementation of new schemes and management of existing schemes. Based on the functional requirements, the board has provided the design requirement for the development of MIS by broadly dividing into five modules, namely technical, material management system, HRD/establishment, accounts and pay roll. All the five modules are inter-linked for easy data transfer among them. The MIS runs on a corporate network linking the head office, divisional offices and sub-divisions across the state. This MIS almost covers all the activities of the board, and after total implementation of the MIS in the board, the board would be practically a paper-less office.
Output & Outcomes
