Installation Of Timer
Background & Objective
The population of the municipality is around 1,06,000, covering an area of around 8 sq km. The municipality is embarking to move towards 24x7 water supply. As of now, the duration of supply is 10 hrs/day. There are around 24 deep tube wells to cater to the needs of the municipality. The municipality is also purchasing bulk water from Sreerampore water tank, which caters to only 10% of the total consumption.
Implementation
The municipality had installed timers, due to which the work of operators working on different shifts has been minimized. The machines are controlled by remote sensing controlling systems (hand remote sets) from a distance of 100m from the office. The municipality has introduced water meters for domestic, commercial, industrial and institutional consumers. In addition to this, a double entry accounting system has been initiated. Water is supplied to the slum dwellers and the poor through community-type house service connections with low tariffs and a certain amount of free quantity of water as per our norms. The municipality is in compliance with the citizens' charter displayed in front of the office. The municipality is going to establish 24x7 water supply, and negotiations are on for private partnership for O&M purposes. Low cost pumping house and automatic operating system have also been installed, which reduced the overhead cost and power costs.
Output & Outcomes
- Due to introduction of timers, manual operations have been reduced. Unscientific operations have been reduced. This prevented actions due to ill motives of the operators. All pumps are running in an un-manned condition.
- Achieved customer satisfaction
